I'm much more interested in how many files I can store in my external hard drive than I am about the way it looks, although I do consider the physical drive's size important. Since external hard drives sit on your desk or in a place that's still visible, they do need to be somewhat attractive. That's where LaCie comes in with trendy drives that blend in with your home or office decor. Just last week, the company announced the LaCie Golden Disk designed by French industrial designer Ora-Ito, and this week, a new line of designer drives hit the streets.

When it comes to portable drives, the smaller they are the better, so LaCie enlisted the help of another industrial designer hoping for a practical yet alluring design that would appeal to mobile professionals. The result was the LaCie Little Disk line, which is available in 30GB to 250GB capacities. The drives sport an elegant, high-gloss design that's complete with a removable cover that hides and protects all its ports. To eliminate extra cables, the LaCie Little Disk comes with a retractable USB cable, which is nice for road warriors. The smaller driver is only 1.8-inches, so it fits perfectly inside a purse or briefcase. Prices start at $100, and they're both available now at LaCie.com.
