Xacti HD700, Sexy in High-Definition

Last year, I noticed more and more consumer cameras were equipped to capture video in high definition. Unfortunately, these cameras were very expensive, selling for over $1,000. This year, you can find some affordable high-def camcorders like the Aiptek Go-HD that Dory tested, or the Xacti HD2 Tom spotted at CES for under $1,000.

Another great pocketcam on my radar is the new Xacti HD700, just announced by Sanyo. The camcorder/camera records high-definition video in 720p and takes still images at a 7.1-megapixel resolution. It's smaller and lighter than the HD2, and it comes in three attractive colors: red, brown, and silver. I've always been attracted to Xacti camcorders because they're small enough to fit inside a purse. This particular model includes "Face Chaser," a face-detection feature that tracks up to 12 faces at a time to adjust exposure and auto-focus, which improves still photos. The camera will be released at the end of October, and you can pick one up for $600. Not bad for an HD camcorder.

the FIRST!! I saw Ellen Degeneres use something similar to these. Of course she's got the money. They look like they would fit the hand nicely and somewhat stylish. Waiting to see if this Tech adviser will have a hands on section when this camcorder is released. LATER

I got this off a buy-it-now ebay auction from a reputable dealer. Also included a free 8gig microsd card and extra battery. It was shipped from China but everything was English. It's an awesome camera. THE DOWNSIDES: A little confusing to use with all it's features and programs and make take some time to learn everything. Also, while you can take okay pictures in dark indoor settings, it's hard because the view finder is dark. A viewing hole would have been an excellent idea here.

Sorry, previous comment was for the Sanyo Xacti HD2.

The Sanyo HD series and Aiptek models are the "King & Queen" of lightweight High Definition camcorders. Before you know it, they'll be dethroned and become the little "boy and girl" among the others to come. But despite this, like many of us, I promise to get one of these and make me King and indulge in it's splendor!!!
