It's hard not to get into Wii Sports, especially if you find yourself using the Wiimote as a racket, bat or golf club. Since the release of the Wii console, gamers have reported injuries due to flying Wiimotes that slipped off their sweaty hands causing damage to their television sets, animals, and sometimes even their friends. After these reports, Nintendo replaced millions of Wii remote straps because the original ones were breaking.
The thicker straps may have helped alleviate the problem some, but Nintendo wants to make sure that remote is protected and stays in your hand at all times. According to its website, the company will now include Wii Remote Jackets in all new console shipments. That's good news for future customers, but existing customers are not left out entirely either.
Anyone who already owns a Wii console, can also get free silicone jackets by entering their serial number and the number of jackets they need (up to four) on this page. It's not entirely clear why the sudden generosity, but I'll take it. The free sleeves start shipping October 15, but you can pre-order yours now.
