Levi's + iPod Jeans= iJeans?

Levi Strauss announced their partnership with Apple at the beginning of the year, and I've been anxiously awaiting the end result of the so-called Levi's Redwire DLX Jeans. And the wait is over.

Gizmodo found some pictures of the carpenter-style jeans over at a Dutch site that shows more images of this iJean hideousness that's about to appear stateside.

I was under the impression that some people prefer their Levi's skintight (did this trend die back in the 80s?), so I don't know why Levi's decided to integrate a built-in docking cradle, a joystick, and retractable headphones into these jeans.

As you can see from the image, the small pocket has a clickwheel to control the iPod. A long red ribbon attached to the inside of a pocket, seems to work as a bungi chord to prevent accidental iPod drops to the floor, and that retractable earphone piece is way too bulky to work for me.

Overall, the idea was poorly executed. Way too confusing, and way too many pockets. I believe we'll hear a lot of complaining from kids who forgot to take the iPod out of their jeans before washing them.

"Moooommmmmm, you washed my iPod!"

One more thing....the jeans will cost you about $200. Not a good deal, especially when you run the risk of ruining a perfect iPod player in the wash, not to mention you'll also look way too iPodified.

What do you think? Would you ever be caught dead in these?

Quick update from Bright.nl:

Levi's doesn't think these jeans will encourage theft but rather protect your iPod from scratches, the joystick on the small pocket is upside down in use ('you will get used to that'), and you can wash the jeans just fine as long as you remove the iPod parts (and your iPod itself of course). A spokesperson of Levi's says this will be easy.

I think they're super cool looking and I would definitely wear them... IF they were in my price range... Did they REALLY cost that much to make that they cost over TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?!?!?

I think it's dumb. How exactly are u supposed to wash them without frying them? Not thought out. I could plan better iPod pants

I have 2 kids and that means we have 2 iPods. There is no way that I would purchase them the jeans. I did buy them the backpacks that are iPod ready and that was only $50.00 not $200.00!

I think it's a great idea...however maybe people aren't quite ready for "techo jeans". Maybe a better market for guys because I just can't see any girls cruisin' around in those bulky things. Guys love pockets and gadgets so if they've got them for guys I think they MIGHT be alright...good luck!

These seem pretty cool and i would probably get them if they were alot cheeper. But I also have to say i dont really get it bc whats the diffrence u can plug your headphones into your ipod and stick it in your pocket or carry it. Plus even though it comes with a dile to cotrol your ipod its much better to look at the screen and see what your doing. Its just simpler.

Companies make all this expensive iPod stuff which seems to defeat the purpose of having a portable, easy-to-use player.

What the journalist doesn't understand is she probably wouldn't be "caught dead" in anything folks age 12-21 wear these days. The jeans will be huge. We're not in the 20th Century anymore, Toto.

this is retarded. great way to make money though, people will buy into it. just not me.

Good Lord. They don't look that bad.... Get over it. I'm sure there will be many more versions of these "iJeans". With the huge popularity of the iPod there's a very slim chance they'll just quit trying after these..So get over it. Just do like me and carry it in a regular old pocket of stick it in your purse, and quit your whining.

definately... your right. Way too much, too iPodish, and chance of ruining an expensive iPod with your expensive jeans... no way

what do you do when the pants get worn? can you buy another pair and switch the ipod to the other pair or do you have to just cut off the faberic and have a i-pod with a bunch of faberic hanging off your head? and i agree with the problem of accendental washing.

My cargo shorts from target have two cell phone pockets. I use the larger of the two for my Ipod and that has worked great. These pants cost $14.00

no way.. thats stupid.. thats what the ipod holders are for.. like everyone said.. you will accidently wash it...lol there goes 400.00

i like it, but the problem would always be the 'forgotten' of iPod in the jean... but the name for it is good
