Levi Strauss announced their partnership with Apple at the beginning of the year, and I've been anxiously awaiting the end result of the so-called Levi's Redwire DLX Jeans. And the wait is over.
Gizmodo found some pictures of the carpenter-style jeans over at a Dutch site that shows more images of this iJean hideousness that's about to appear stateside.
I was under the impression that some people prefer their Levi's skintight (did this trend die back in the 80s?), so I don't know why Levi's decided to integrate a built-in docking cradle, a joystick, and retractable headphones into these jeans.
As you can see from the image, the small pocket has a clickwheel to control the iPod. A long red ribbon attached to the inside of a pocket, seems to work as a bungi chord to prevent accidental iPod drops to the floor, and that retractable earphone piece is way too bulky to work for me.
Overall, the idea was poorly executed. Way too confusing, and way too many pockets. I believe we'll hear a lot of complaining from kids who forgot to take the iPod out of their jeans before washing them.
"Moooommmmmm, you washed my iPod!"
One more thing....the jeans will cost you about $200. Not a good deal, especially when you run the risk of ruining a perfect iPod player in the wash, not to mention you'll also look way too iPodified.
What do you think? Would you ever be caught dead in these?
Quick update from Bright.nl:
Levi's doesn't think these jeans will encourage theft but rather protect your iPod from scratches, the joystick on the small pocket is upside down in use ('you will get used to that'), and you can wash the jeans just fine as long as you remove the iPod parts (and your iPod itself of course). A spokesperson of Levi's says this will be easy.

I love the idea. I don't think they are ugly. Thank god, Buddha, and the tree spirits that tight fitting jeans died in the '80s. However, one should never carry a hard drive based iPod (or hard drive based anything for that matter) in one's pocket. That's the best way to destroy your iPod and its ability to play back music. It's common sense really. Would you strap your laptop to your hip and walk around, "UH, DUH, no, that would damage the hard drive." BINGO! It should only be used with a flash based iPod like the Nano.
What's going on in the world today?
No, but seriously, they're not all bad, I totally agree with "pimpdaddy_thos". Listen to him man.
when u wash the jeans what will happen to the cords and every other electronic thing on thoose pants

Great idea....now kids can wear them to school and pay even less attention to their teachers. People are stupid.
Ipods are just a fad and you'll all get over'em and look back saying,"Why did I pay so much for one of these?" seriously, we know that Apple is losing money 'cause their desktop computers suck and can't compare to Windows with their OS. They keep beating a dead horse for more money. I'd never wear these. I'd tourch'em in front of the store if I could. Ipods are ugly and expensive. I can buy one but I'd much rather buy an MP3 player that I can expand on if needed with a media card. W/e
Ew... Looks Gross... Totally!!!!!
People pay $200 for ripped up Levi's. Now THAT's stupid; at least these ones have some purpose behind the price tag.
retard. this is really stpid. who wants ijeans. thats GHEYYYYYY
not a bad idea at all..if you got extra couple of hundreds - why not? if you don't, then just don't get these. people are buying purses for thousand $, so? i say, you should go to the store, try 'em on, if they look great on you - get it; and if you're hooked up on your ipod - even better! but i'd make sure to wear them like every other day, to pay off your spending! =)
How often does anyone wear a particular pair of jeans, especially if they have $200 to blow on one pair? The people that I know that are able to spend that much wear any given pair of jeans once or twice every few months. This idea will attract a few super-geeky rich kids but overall will not make a lot of sales.
thats acrazy idea because thats an electric hazzard proublem
no,no, no...they're the ECONOMY!! not ur friends! they are going to invent these to suck u in to the wirlpool of over expensive JUNK. they want the money...u want the cool goods...it works. some of these ideas they've made up dont work, yes, but in the long run, ppl want to fit in and b the best-u kno-stay ahead of the game. it wont b long until the american ppl start to wear these...just u wait..i will happen.
Hmmmm yeah well the jeans aren't exactly very necessary, I'm pretty happy stuffing my Ipod into my pocket or bag. But i suppose they are Levi's and Apple and anything goes. Well for something related and entertaining check out this Redwire related site www.thepodpolice.com
I like it :-)
Well, not that i'm any thing close 2 a jeans designer but if thet just simply lost all the extras such as the retractable headphones, the red chord docking station and simply made a pocket with and opening to control the buttons. it would be ok. But, NO! they had 2 over design it leaving a over designed pair a jeans, because the jeans with white stiching looks pretty cool. Price wise i don't think they are even expensive because many pay just as uch or more on italian or french designers.
