Levi Strauss announced their partnership with Apple at the beginning of the year, and I've been anxiously awaiting the end result of the so-called Levi's Redwire DLX Jeans. And the wait is over.
Gizmodo found some pictures of the carpenter-style jeans over at a Dutch site that shows more images of this iJean hideousness that's about to appear stateside.
I was under the impression that some people prefer their Levi's skintight (did this trend die back in the 80s?), so I don't know why Levi's decided to integrate a built-in docking cradle, a joystick, and retractable headphones into these jeans.
As you can see from the image, the small pocket has a clickwheel to control the iPod. A long red ribbon attached to the inside of a pocket, seems to work as a bungi chord to prevent accidental iPod drops to the floor, and that retractable earphone piece is way too bulky to work for me.
Overall, the idea was poorly executed. Way too confusing, and way too many pockets. I believe we'll hear a lot of complaining from kids who forgot to take the iPod out of their jeans before washing them.
"Moooommmmmm, you washed my iPod!"
One more thing....the jeans will cost you about $200. Not a good deal, especially when you run the risk of ruining a perfect iPod player in the wash, not to mention you'll also look way too iPodified.
What do you think? Would you ever be caught dead in these?
Quick update from Bright.nl:
Levi's doesn't think these jeans will encourage theft but rather protect your iPod from scratches, the joystick on the small pocket is upside down in use ('you will get used to that'), and you can wash the jeans just fine as long as you remove the iPod parts (and your iPod itself of course). A spokesperson of Levi's says this will be easy.

i would wear them if they where given to me. they sound cool and inventive, think its a neat idea. they might not be idealitic but what is. i remember back in grade school this one girl had a whole bunch of tomigcies all attached to her shoes just because it was cool, im sure rich kids will be wearing them as a fad and then go out of style like a lot of things. but to answer the question yes i would wear them mind you not pay for it but i would wear them.
notsomuch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
who would make these costing 200 bucks? when u can buy a regular pair for about 25 bucks. waste of the ipod business, and levi will be happy 200 dollars but the buyer will be mad at levi. levi ur crazy makin ijeans u gotta make somethin more like detachable costing less, and your a fool to make the i-jean
i-pods are expensive enough i wouldnt pay 200$ for jeans that are wired not to mention the risk of getting electrotued
its good idea for a while. 200 $ can be made by 20$ by Chinese very soon and even more comfortable than Levis...
umm jaymay2008 said that technology has made people stupid.. then whythebloodyhell are you posting a comment from a COMPUTER ... and as for the jeans.. i think thats stupid.. i personally dont like em.. and i'm TOTALLY okay with putting miy ipod in my own classic levi jeans.. or holding it.. i will NEVER beg my parents to buy me those jeans.. eww..
these pants are ridiculous, but so is the "washing an ipod in the washer" bit.you guys are forgetting that these things (ipods) are an obsession.I would venture to say that about 95% of the kids who have these worship them.they keep them with them at all times,it would be the first thing they grabbed after taking off the pants, maybe before.then they would recharge it or put it on its pedestal or whatever. If they didnt do that and it got ruined in the wash half the kids would not get a new one,and the other half would have to wait a bit.thats precious seconds that they arent in the "in" crowd, not a chance they are willing to take for the most part.
those jeans have "dork" written all over them...
whats wrong with the old headphones and ipod, why does it need to be built in, lame.
ill probably buy about 5 pairs, i like to be trendy.
i think its the stupidest thing ever
ITS STUPID
iDiotic. If they vibrate along with your favorite tunes, maybe. The scary thing is, they'll probably be somewhat successful in pushing these on kids that have nothing better to spend their money on than a lame gimmick.
if you wear those jeans, it'll probably get you some attention BUT most people carry their ipods with them every day, and i don't think you want to wear the same pair of jeans everyday!
ok thats technology this days. never comment but lets try to observed the outcome for this sooner it will also depreciated as far as technology is cocern. so no need to comment for this coz it will upgrade sooner or later. so for those who over react lets wait and see first.

wow!!!you can put an ipod in these jeans and lesten to it too???(sarcasm intended) i can do the same thing with every pair of jeans i have. I cant believe apple or levi strauss thought about/agreed to do this its just a really stupid idea
I think lots of kids will wear them. The question is how long will the controls last through washing. My phone in my pocket goes through enough abuse.
quickly looking at the title i thought it read "iPod + jesus = iJesus" contemplate that one... ?? haha
