What His Gaming System Says About Him

According to Nielsen Media Research, two-thirds of all men between the ages of 18 and 34 own a video game console (maybe even two), so the chances of dating an avid gamer are pretty high. It's normal to want to know everything about him without asking too many questions on the first date, but can you really learn anything about his personality based on the type of gaming system he owns?

Dating site Match.com, along with MSN, asked a panel of male experts if a man's gaming system could tell us anything about them. Based on their comments, there are a few things we can learn about the guy who owns a Wii, a PlayStation or an Xbox 360, but before you read on, keep in mind these are all opinions. They're written for a dating site, so I wouldn't take anything to heart.

Here are the results...

If he owns a PlayStation:

  • He's an early adopter who likes to be the first on the block to have new things.
  • He has deep pockets.
  • He demands the best out of his experience—and women.
  • He's sophisticated, intelligent, competitive, and loyal, and he's willing to wait for a good thing.
  • He's always in the know.
  • He's difficult to keep up with, as he's always working.
  • He uses video games as a chance to unwind and relax.

If he owns an Xbox 360:

  • He's willing to play cooperatively with a significant other.
  • He's into serious gaming.
  • He likes violent games and the social aspect of connecting with friends online.
  • He may be a little on the shy side.
  • He tends to make good money and likes to spend it.
  • He's passionate about gaming, which transfers into the bedroom as well.

If he owns a Wii:

  • He's a fun guy.
  • He's smart enough to continue to game without scaring off his date.
  • He's smart with his money since the Wii costs less than the other two consoles.
  • He's not a serious gamer who will spend hours playing video games.
  • He's probably in good shape with all that exercise.

So guys, what do you think? Are these expert opinions close to the truth?

And ladies, who would you rather date?

The part about owning a Playstation contradicts itself. It says you're an early adopter who likes to be the first, but then it says that you're a person who is willing to wait for a good thing. You wouldn't be the first if you were holding out to see how things play out.

I love a guy with a gaming console... but have never known anyone to have an x-box. Guys with gaming pcs are way too nerdy for my taste. What does it mean if a guy has more than one of the aforementioned consoles? What does it say about a gal if she's got a Wii (like me)?
