I like to go for a run in the early evening, but it's hard for me to be motivated about it when it's dark outside. I don't know about you, but I like to be aware of my surroundings when I run alone, but that's hard to do when you have limited visibility and iPod earbuds plugging your ears. Now, I'm a safety-conscious runner who's loaded up on pepper spray and personal alarms before, but I think I found a better tool that will both protect and light your way at night.

The product I'm talking about is actually a flashlight called Brite-Strike, designed for police officers by police officers. The good news is anyone can buy one to use for protection. The one intended for civilians is called the Protector, which can produce up to 80 lumens of brilliant white light to momentarily blind and disorient an attacker. The flashlight also has a 100-decibel personal alarm that produces an excruciating loud sound when activated. And if that doesn't scare an assailant off, then you can physically attack him/her with the flashlight itself since it's equipped with a defensive crown on the front and rear for maximum impact when used as a weapon.

The waterproof and shockproof flashlight can be used as a normal flashlight, and if you don't like the black holster it comes with, you can purchase a designer holster in pink, blue, camo, or plaid to match your purse of outfit. The Shirlene Young Collection is actually trendy. I love that the site includes an informative "Flash, Bash, and Dash" step-by-step training guide available for download to help you train like a pro. I think this would be a great gift for someone in the military, law enforcement, or anyone who wants a little protection at night.
