High-Tech Help for the Perfect Thanksgiving Gathering

Thanksgiving is next week, and I'm more worried about entertaining my dinner guests than I am about cooking the turkey. Since I'll be too busy cooking in the kitchen, I want my guests to have a good time before and after they eat. I've compiled a list of essential high-tech gadgets any good host should always have on hand. Some of them are pricey, and some are small, but they'll all make a huge difference during the upcoming holiday festivities.

Evolve Wireless Speakers

A party is not a party without music, which is why you'll need a great-looking pair of wireless speakers. I'll be reviewing the Evolve Wireless Sound System shortly, but the true test will be over the Thanksgiving weekend when I place detachable speakers in different rooms to stream music throughout the house. The sound system is so sleek, it practically matches any home decor, and since it supports most iPods, you won't have to worry about playing DJ all night. Just create your Thanksgiving playlists ahead of time, and let Evolve take care of the rest. I can't wait to see my friends' reactions!

Electric Martini Shaker

You don't need a machine to fix the perfect martini, but during the holidays, I'll take all the help I can get. The Perfect Temperature Martini Maker will shake or stir a martini until it reaches the optimal drinking temperature (34° F) at the touch of a button. The compact device can make two martinis at a time, and when the party is over, you can hide it under the bar or countertop. It's so fun, guests will be making their own martinis all night long.

Flameless Wax Sensor Candles

Candles are a great way to set the mood at the dinner table, but they can be extremely dangerous. This year, I'll be replacing wax candles with battery-operated LED candles so that I don't have to worry about accidents or waxy messes. The Flameless Wax Sensor Candles are made with real wax, but light up with a simple wave of your hand. They even infuse the air with a subtle aroma just like the real thing.

Cooper Cooler

This is a party must-have, especially if you live in or around the Napa Valley area like I do. The Cooper Cooler can chill a bottle of wine in six minutes, so you never run out of chilled wine or beer. This is the kind of gadget you always want to have year round.

I know some folks who put a laptop out on the bar so folks can surf the net. They keep it very generic (and their other PCs locked down) to protect the family's privacy. LED candles are a good idea if you have guests (like me) who unconsciously hold their paper plate & napkin over a candle while deciding what goodies to get next.
