Score a Wii This Weekend — Or Buy a Rain Check?

Online searches for the Wii are at an all-time high, and as Dec. 25 approaches, the search for the ultimate gaming console everyone wants under the tree keeps raging. But don't fret, your chances of finding a Wii are looking good. Nintendo's president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Toys R Us, and Circuit City all will have large supplies of Wii consoles in stock this weekend. That means you still have a chance of scoring a Wii before the holidays.

Kotaku says that according to Best Buy tipsters, each store will have at least 21 consoles in stock, with some carrying as many as 100. Target stores, on the other hand, will carry more than 100 (again rumored by a tipster). These figures are not confirmed, but they should give you an idea of where to look for one.

If that fails, and you still can't find a Wii at a reasonable price, then you have another option. According to the Associated Press, GameStop will start selling rain checks for the Wii system for $249 on Dec. 20 and 21, which guarantees you a console before Jan. 29. The company is doing this so that you "have something to put under the tree." Fils-Aime said there will be "tens of thousands" of these Wii rain checks available, so you don't have to worry about any shortage there. I'm not sure how badly your kid wants a Wii, but giving them a rain check for Christmas just sounds like a cruel idea. What do you think?

And if they don't deliver the Wii in January? $250 for a slip of paper is pretty expensive. They are risking nothing.

How reliable is this person giving us the tip??? In early October, I visited 6 different stores (in 4 zip-codes) and spoke to the store managers (from Best Buys, Target, 2 different Game Stops) and not one could tell me of any estimated merchandise receiving dates... and that was 2 months ago. At this point in the season, I highly doubt that this article is accurate... It doesn't make sense for Nintendo to release so many consoles so close to the Holidays, they would have been cashing-in long before the Holidays. Some people might want to waste the last valuable days of shopping going store to store... But I won't. Are we just spoiling our kids or what !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Target at 5am today. I was the 17th person in line. The store had 114 in stock. The 114th person showed up at about 7:50am.

I got one today on my first try. Best Buy in Denver had 54 of them I got number 52 at 7am. I think it will be worth the 1 hour in the cold. I am pretty sure that my kids will dig it. I can tell you that Big Daddy can't wait..
