These days, almost everyone owns an MP3 player, which has raised concerns about hearing loss. Over a year ago, a Louisiana man even filed a lawsuit against Apple, which prompted the company to issue a new "maximum volume limit" feature in future iPod updates. But despite the hearing loss scare, many people still jam earbuds into their ears and turn the volume up all the way.
Those who are squeamish about earbuds resort to over-the-ear headphones, but those too have disadvantages and can be uncomfortable for the gym. If you don't like headphones or earbuds that plug your ears, you might want to keep an eye on N-Tech's VIBE NVE-100 bone-conduction earbuds. These clip-on earbuds hang onto your ear and use bone-conduction technology to deliver music to your eardrums. One charge via USB will carry you through six hours of music.
AVING says the NVE-100 is different from other bone-conduction earbuds because it vibrates so that you can actually feel the thumping music or game you're playing. They're also safer since they won't block your ears, and you'll be able to hear ambient sounds around you. Perfect for cyclists and other sporty types. Sadly, the NVE-100 will initially be available only in Korea for about $150.
