Is your New Year's Resolution to be more organized this year? If it is, you need software to help you keep track all your belongings. This week, I found the IntelliScanner mini bundle over at the Macworld convention, where it got Best of Show last year. The company introduced a more robust IntelliScanner SOHO this year, which helps small business owners track inventory, media, and internal assets, but I had my eye on the IntelliScanner mini for home use.
A rep gladly demoed the mini scanner she wore around her neck to give me a better idea of what the product could do. Basically, you scan the barcode on any items you own, and the accompanying software grabs and stores the product's information in a searchable database you can browse later. Once all your belongings are scanned, you can either track them on your computer as well as online if you decide to publish your collection. And just so you know, the software's interface is similar to iTunes, therefore very easy to use by Mac or PC users alike.
I simply love the idea of being able to track and set due dates on books, CDs, DVDs, and video games I've lent out to friends, or the ability to check my grocery inventory via my iPhone when I'm out shopping. This type of software is definitely for those of us who need a little help in the organization department.
IntelliScanner gives you the option is to buy the mini scanner with a software bundle for $299, which includes five applications to help you organize your media collection, wines, comics, groceries, and assets or you can simply forego buying the bundle and just buy one IntelliScanner mini with one application for half the price.

Sounds good in principle, but I'll wait till the price drops. $299 is too expensive.
