Apple has confirmed that MacBook Air notebooks have started shipping, and new owners will want to know where to find all the right accessories for their extra thin companion. I put a list together of all the add-ons you'll need for your new notebook such as an extra USB hub, ethernet adapters, and an optical drive, but the most important accessory you'll need is a protective case. The MacBook Air is not only light, but very delicate. One fall, and I'm afraid it's over. If you're looking for a sleeve for your notebook, check out these options:

  • If you really want a manila folder to protect your notebook, you can actually get one. Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans created the AirMail handmade sleeve out of durable upholstery-grade vinyl, and lined it with fuzzy, soft fleece. You can pre-order your for $30.
  • Etsy.com is a great place to find great looking sleeves you won't find in stores. Janine King Designs already has about 16 new sleeves for the MacBook Air in many colors, patterns, and materials. They're all padded for safety, and are waterproof to protect your new laptop. All sleeves sell for $49.
  • Geeksugar spotted the MacBag by Studio Leung earlier this week. This is probably the closest you'll come to putting your cute MacBook air inside a manila envelope, since the bag is extremely thin, yet made of materials that are both protective and water-resistant. Studio Leung will be selling the bags soon so keep checking the site for more details.
  • Belkin has the coolest, most fashionable sleeves for the MacBook Air, so if you're looking for something very colorful and bright, start there first. Some of the cases come with shoulder straps, and some are just meant to protect your notebook while it's inside your bag. My favorite is the Expression Sleeve because I love the material and the pattern. Prices range between $30 and $50.
  • UK-based Wrappers just introduced ten new sleeves for the MacBook Air on its website. You can find sleeves made out of shiny plastic, linen, alcantara, cordura, and more. Prices range between $35-$70.
  • For a more rugged look, check out Waterfield's SleeveCases made of high-grade neoprene and wrapped in ballistic nylon shell.
