Convoys are an excellent way to travel along with friends, or they can be an absolute nightmare. If you'd rather avoid the hassle of playing follow the leader in a convoy, you'll enjoy Tom Tom's handheld satellite-navigation systems—now offering a friend-tracking mode. Tom Tom Buddies allows you to track other Tom Tom users once you add them to your buddy list. Make your trips more interesting by staying in touch with each other through instant messages—which are read out-load by the system. Definitely a lifesaver in the case of an emergency, or when making the inevitable pit stop. I absolutely love road trips, but when traveling with friends and family, this system will save me unnecessary headaches. Other nice features added to Tom Tom's services include real time weather, safety camera alerts, traffic and road conditions alerts, and integrated MP3 player. Look for this product sometime in mid-April 2006. How do you track your friends on the road?

After reviewing the Tom Tom's web stie I found a lot of the features are not available in the US yet. (traffic camera, weather, road conditions alerts). In addition, there bluetouth features are limited to listed phones/PDA's. Their web site only says to check back later for these features to be available in the United States. I am sure this will be is a great unit to have when these features become availabe in the United States. Till then I will continue to use my Sony GPS system.
