A 320GB Hard Drive So Small, it Fits in Your Shirt Pocket

Manufacturers are skimping out on necessary features as computers get thinner, smaller, and cheaper. The Asus EEE PC is very affordable at $400 but the 8GB storage capacity is a joke. The MacBook Air is absolutely gorgeous, but as you know, you're going to need a few add-ons when you're on the road.

Most ultra-portable computers are made for road warriors, which means any add-ons they're likely to consider have to be light enough to take on the road. The Gadgettress spotted the super tiny My Passport Essential Drives from Western Digital, which are supposed to be available in 320GB, 250GB, and 165GB capacities. These drives weigh less than 5 ounces and come loaded with WD Sync software to back up your data and Google applications like Picasa. They're are also compatible with both Windows and Apple Computers, so if there are any multimedia students out there, this might be a nice drive to have for those video projects.

thanks gina!! this info now gives me reason to purchase an asus eee . . . (the primary reason for delay was the scanty storage of the asus) . . . these drives fit the ultra-portable-ness (sic) of the asus eee and are affordable!! (200 bucks for 320g's!!) . . . thanks again!! MWAH!!

The WD drives are nifty little things but they aren't really needed for the Asus Eee. It has a slot for an SD card that would be cheaper and more practical to use for that system. The Eee and Air aren't "missing" things. They are designed to be secondary systems for people who travel a lot and have other, primary systems. The Air is too high priced (right now) to be a desirable secondary system for most but the Eee (even with a good SD card) won't run you more than $500.

sandisk just came out with a 32g sd card for $400 . . . these wd drives have ten times the memory at half the cost . . . a no brainer . . . i know what the intended market is for the asus eee and the apple air . . . the apple air is way too expensive for this intended use . . . which is why the asus eee now rocks!! these wd drives will not only keep the eee ultra-portable . . . but also make it ultra versatile!

I have a couple of Toshiba 200 Gb drives that are almost that size myself. Great investment! I am going to get one more and get rid of my old Maxtor One-Touch - these new small drives are great and super cheap!
