Ever wonder what future computers will look like? Me too. If you're curious enough, you should check out Next Gen's PC Design Competition sponsored by Microsoft and IDSA. The site features 31 Windows-based computer designs that range from multi-user napkin PCs to fan-like UMPCs with multiple screen displays. All concept designs are pretty entertaining, and likely to never see the inside of our homes, but you have to give designers props for originality.
All the finalists have been announced, and now the public can vote for their favorites until March 15, 2008. I guess my personal favorite was the Momenta necklace because it would basically eliminate the need to have a video camera handy when you need to capture a special moment. Not only does the Momenta match your clothes with its graphical personalization feature, but it starts recording when your heart rate increases so you know only the best moments are captured. The device runs on a light-weight Microsoft operating system called SLIM and has wireless capabilities so you have a connection to the web when in range of a network.
Check out all the concept designs here, and come back to tell us which one is your favorite.
Join in the discussion. Here you'll see the comments in the order they were posted.
It's cool to know how our future might be. So later on we're not so surprised about what we see.

I liked the Backpacker's Diary - it could be used anywhere by anyone. The foldout solar panel is a good use of current technology, and using it as a camp light mimics what I see kids doing now with cellphones & iPods.
