YouTube coming to TiVo. Sweet!

I'm a big TiVo fan, especially now that I have a TiVo HD and can watch new movie releases thanks to Amazon Unbox. I hate the hassle of renting movies, so I really love being able to download new movie releases straight to my TiVo instead. Another thing I love to do is watch YouTube videos with friends. I think we watched every YouTube video out there when I was reviewing Toshiba's short-range projector. Sadly, I haven't done that since, but that may soon change.

YouTube and TiVo have announced a new service that will let users search, browse and watch YouTube videos directly on their television sets provided they own a TiVo Series 3 or TiVo HD DVR. First of all, that tells me YouTube is close to launching its high-definition video player, and that will only get more interesting once YouTube starts streaming video. Secondly, I'm glad to hear TiVo is getting with the times here, and hope they start offering more services like this one.

The press release doesn't mention any specifics on how this will be done, except that you will need a broadband connection, and can log into your YouTube account directly from TiVo to access your favorite channels and playlists. They also left out the part where they tell us exactly when this service will be available, but do look for it later this year. I'll be keeping you posted.
