When I was stationed in Okinawa, I missed my family and friends so much, I would listen to old messages left on my answering machine a few times when homesickness would get the best of me. Turns out Charles Whiting, an 80-year-old widower, was upset when he lost the only recording he had of his late wife's voice when Verizon upgraded his telephone service in Irvington, NY.
Mr. Whiting said he would listen to his voicemail everyday to hear his wife's voice saying "Catherine Whiting", because it would comfort him. I imagine someone at Verizon felt really bad about this, so a contractor at the company searched through archived recordings and was able to restore it for Mr. Whiting, so he can listen to his wife's message anytime he wants. Needless to say, Charles Whiting is a very happy man, and well, it's nice to know some of these big companies have a heart after all.
Thanks Switched, for the heartwarming story.

Kudos! My dad's widow kept his greeting on her their answering machine for quite a while after he passed away. It was a comfort to her and many of their friends when they called.
