YouTube videos now in higher quality, hack not required

Last week I told you about a 'hack' that would allow you to watch high-resolution videos on YouTube. Well, you can scratch that because YouTube has finally announced all users have the option of watching some videos in higher quality. A post on the site says they're slowly integrating this option, and eligible videos uploaded in the right format will be the first to be available in high quality. The rest of the library will soon follow, so be patient.

The good news is this option is not restricted to advertisers only (although I still think their videos look better), so we can look forward to watching sharper YouTube videos overall. To watch videos in HQ, you have to go to your account page and change your settings to "always show me higher quality when available." Just make sure you have a fast Internet connection, otherwise your videos will look choppy.

The post also says higher-quality videos have a link below the video player that allows you switch between normal or high quality settings, but I didn't see this link. I'm not sure if it's a browser problem or if this is a setting only available to some users. Reading through the comments, I can see others are experiencing the same problem, so let me know if you see the mysterious link.

So there you have it, ask and you shall receive. I've been waiting for this feature for a while so while it's not perfect, I'm just glad they've got the ball rolling here.

I noticed the quality difference in some videos, except the ones in my channel. Are you seeing a difference? Let me know in the comments section.

You can only see the link if you chose for Youtube to decide when to give you higher-quality videos according to your internet connection in your settings.

i saw the "mysterious" link. i think its purpose is to let you switch from high quality to a lower quality if you're having trouble with the hq videos. because on my computer it only showed the link when i had videos set to higher quality, but it i switched to lower quality, it wasn't there.
