Sony's Rolly music player is an flashy egg-shaped music player that twirls, spins, and flaps around to the beat of your favorite music. It was released in Japan last year, and it looks like it's slowly making its way to the U.S. According to Engadget, Sony has submitted all the paperwork of the SEP-30BT (aka Rolly) to the FCC, which means there's a good chance the dancing robot will hit the market this spring or summer.

Apparently, the music player has a 2GB storage capacity, and can play MP3's and AAC files via Bluetooth with A2DP. Ben spotted the Rolly at this year's CES show, and says the dancing queen was absolutely cute and can be programmed to learn new dancing steps. The Japanese version is available in black and white, and Sony is introducing colorful end caps that will be sold separately—and hopefully available to us by the time it hits the U.S. market. So far, some have speculated the price of the Rolly will be between $400 and $500 (a reasonable estimate according to one Sony publicist), and if that's the case, I doubt the Rolly will see much success in the U.S.

I mean, the player is cute, but I'm not sure it's $500 cute. What do you think?

not even, more like $5. who wants to buy a dancing mp3 player for $500 which has no screen and has a capacity of 2G. Japanese people would make somthing like this!!!!!!!!

Well, yes I agree that Japanese people would make something like this... they like cute, innovative things, but I doubt in this recession that it's going to have success if the only thing it does is "dances" and plays music for $500. It needs to have more abilities, but what can you do with that?

$500 - no way!!! No MP3 player is worth that to me. I'd rather go buy a new computer for that price. $50 is all I'd pay and cute - doesn't cut it for that price. Thanks anyway Sony - FYI - I still haven't upgraded to the PS3 because you're too expensive - Sony - there's an economic downturn in the US - drop your prices.... thanks.

"player is aN flashy egg-shaped music player" typo... otherwise, yeh, $500 is way to much for a "cute" mp3 player
