Like most people, when I'm on the hunt for a new external hard drive, I usually gravitate toward the ones with the lowest price and highest capacities. But a little style doesn't hurt either. Manufacturers are really
sprucing them up with colors and graphics nowadays.
I have a few external hard drives at home, but they're not exactly the most portable. The good news is portable drives, like the tiny MyPassport Essential, now come in higher capacities, smaller packages, and are looking better than ever.
What I like about the pocket-size MyPassport Essential is that it weighs less than a seven ounces, yet it's available in 320GB, 250GB, 160GB, and 120GB capacities. This means you can carry thousands of photos, MP3s, digital video, and movies in your bag, and you won't even feel it.
If black, gray or white is not your thing, you have your choice of 11 colors that range from brilliant orange to a minty green color. These small drives are compatible with both Macs and PCs, and are powered through a USB cable, so you won't need extra power adapters.
If you're looking for something to take with you to work or school, check out these flashy portable drives.

In addition to those drives looking cool, I use different colors to help me stay organized, i.e. one color for certain backups, another for pictures etc. I've been using WD Passport drives since they came out and were only available in silver (slightly larger, too) and quickly found that it was a bit of a hassle to distinguish between them. Now with all these color choices, it is easier than ever to organize my digital life...
