I hate being too concerned about filthy keyboards and mice in public places,
but it's hard not to when you see sick people do some pretty gross things while
they're at a computer. Yes, I'm a complete germophobe, and I admit to carrying
my own mouse and roll-up keyboard when I have to, but I'd rather do that than
get sick with the
stomach flu or worse.
Believe it or not, there's a huge demand for washable peripherals out there. The idea of a washable or "germ free" mice isn't new, but I love the idea of a roll-up washable keyboard like those sold by SEAL SHIELD.
The flexible keyboard called the SEAL Flex is a medical grade, dishwasher safe keyboard you can roll up and take with you anywhere. The company website says it's made of quality silicon that can be also be cleaned with disinfectant wipes, and is waterproof so you don't have to worry about accidental spills. I've always wondered how these washable keyboards protect the cords, but this one appears to have a gold USB connector to resist rust, and a USB cap to keep water from getting in. The company sells SEAL Flex for $40, and offers many other antimicrobial peripherals such as mouse pads, washable mice, and keyboards.
If you're uneasy about using that filthy keyboard at the office, maybe it's time to get your admin to check into washable peripherals.
