Are you a Guitar Hero fan? If you are, then you'll be happy to know the next game is about to get bigger and better. In an interview with Conde Nast's Portfolio magazine, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick revealed the upcoming Guitar Hero game will not be just about guitars but will include lots of other instruments and vocals.

That's right kids, the company is ditching the solo act and is getting ready to give Harmonix's Rock Band some not-so-friendly competition. Battle of the bands, anyone?

Gaming blog Joystiq says some of the instruments are likely to be a drum kit and a microphone, of course, which would make the new game more like... Band Hero? Guitar Hero has been a popular video game among the casual gamers, which the company says includes women, children, and older gamers. These groups actually rocked out to most of the songs in their youth, so Activision plans to spice things up with more instruments, more songs, and even introduce content from local bands.

It's going to be an exciting holiday season, and I for one can't wait.

Tis about time, hopefully there will be a keyboard (Piano) peripheral with either the next Hero game, or another version of rock band. Though, all in all, as long as both groups support the GH3's guitar controller, that's mainly what I care about. It being the style of guitar that I like to play on and am most used to. If they force consumers to go with a new guitar controller for the next big addition to either series and not support the older ones, they'll certainly lose business. Or at the very least, mine. And more wireless controller options would be nice as well. (Rock Band's cords get messy sometimes, and in some cases are altogether too short.)

As an owner of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band's song selection far exceeds that of Guitar Hero 3. So regardless of what instruments Guitar Hero introduces, if they don't provide a better song lineup, which includes adding new songs, then it can't compete with Rock Band.

is the only thing going through the minds of guitar hero fans an issue with their parents? I'm sure the signs of an age of timeless rock is not only in the works but an aged rebelion.
