Are you a Guitar Hero fan? If you are, then you'll be happy to know the next
game is about to get bigger and better. In an interview with Conde Nast's Portfolio magazine, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick revealed the
upcoming Guitar Hero game will not be just about guitars but will include lots
of other instruments and vocals.
That's right kids, the company is ditching the solo act and is getting ready to give Harmonix's Rock Band some not-so-friendly competition. Battle of the bands, anyone?
Gaming blog Joystiq says some of the instruments are likely to be a drum kit and a microphone, of course, which would make the new game more like... Band Hero? Guitar Hero has been a popular video game among the casual gamers, which the company says includes women, children, and older gamers. These groups actually rocked out to most of the songs in their youth, so Activision plans to spice things up with more instruments, more songs, and even introduce content from local bands.
It's going to be an exciting holiday season, and I for one can't wait.

I'm not all that excited about this happening but I'm sure it will be fun. And I hope the song selection is WWWAAAAAAYYYYYYY better than Rock Band's, Guitar Hero's songs are always great.

Wow...it's amazing how many people don't realize that the company that makes RockBand (Harmonix) is the company that made the first two Guitar Heroes. This is just Activision trying to catch up with the company that created the music simulation genre using sequels of their own game. Adding more peripherals to Guitar Hero is a good idea, but RockBand, Harmonix's continuing project which replaced Guitar Hero as their premier music simulation game, will always be one step ahead. Adding a keyboard periph to Guitar Hero? RockBand will have a new section devoted to orchestra, complete with violin, organ, and cello periphs. That's a complete dramatization, but you get the point. You can't buy a game from the company that created it AND the genre it spearheaded, and then try to make it better than their new spearhead.
