It's Friday, and you probably can't wait to get home to play some video games. If you want to get your fix, check out the Guitar Hero III embeddable widget. The widget debuted on Wired's Game Life blog, but anyone can grab the code and put it on their site or blog. Activision's mini-game widget is not easy to play (even on the lowest level), but if you manage to hit the right notes, you could be eligible to win prizes from developer Rocket XL and Activision.

There is no guitar controller, so you'll need pretty fast fingers, and your keyboard's keypad to show off your mad GHIII skills. The three (lame) songs included are Cult of Personality" by Living Colour (easy), "School's Out" by Alice Cooper (medium), and "Metal Heavy Lady" by Lions (hard), each representing a specific level of difficulty.

It was impossible for me to hit even one note on this game, but a look at the leaderboard tells me it is not impossible. Give the widgetized game a try, and tell me if you think this game is masterable or just a cruel marketing ploy of some kind.

It is so easy. Just hold the keyboard upside down, like the guitar in the console game. Have fun with a laptop.

I couldnt hit anything but the first note. I think there is a problem with the timing on the widget because i even tried focusing on one key and that didnt work either.

its kind of easy. first you used the numbers above the letters not the numeric pad. and if you never play guitar heroe you press enter together with the number to work. Have fun

if you have a desktop PC with a wireless keyboard you have full advantage. just pick it up and hold it kind of like a GH controller and use the enter on the numeric keypad and the 1-5 buttons above the QWERTY. real simple on medium anyways
