Not sure if wearable Wi-Fi detectors are really all that necessary, but that
didn't stop designer Stefan Dukaczewski from creating a hotspot detecting sneaker. Based on the Nike Dunk platform, 'A Step in the Right Direction'
or ASRD, was re-engineered as a shoe that can detect wireless signals within a 50 meter area.
The shoe's outside flap sports three LEDs that connect to an actual Wi-Fi detecting
unit. Once the wearer activates the pressure sensitive insole, the LEDs will
blink until it finds a signal
or light up all the way to show signal strength.
Personally, I'm too old to have blinking LEDs on my shoes, but maybe this type
of sneaker will appeal to younger consumers who need to get online, like now.
The designer created a working prototype for Ubiq boutique, and says it was a one time deal, so don't expect to see these shoes in stores—at least not anytime soon. In the meantime, you could check out those Wi-Fi detecting shirts or stop by a Starbucks to jump online.

if people can't tell that they are in a hotspot with their laptop then they really don't need to be using the internet. it's just a waste of money.
