Mother's Day is once a year, so make it count this year by treating Mom to
some cool gadgets. Chris Null shared some
high-tech gift ideas, but here are a few more just in case you're still
looking.
Texting Mom
Mom's landline doesn't have to be boring, especially now that VTech has added the first Instant Messaging cordless phone to its product line. The VTech IS6110 phone connects to her PC via a USB port so she can send short texts to her IM buddies. It has a full-keypad, a color LCD, speakerphone, phone book, caller ID, call waiting, recordable ringtones, and is even environmentally friendly. You can purchase the phone for $99.95 or less from any of these retailers.
I know there are a lot of young Moms out there that love Tokidoki, so for them I recommend the latest Tokidoki Mimobot toy drive that can hold up to 4GB of her favorite stuff. Maletta, Pastaio, and Pirate Nero are all preloaded with Tokidoki goodies such as icons, wallpapers, and avatars. Prices range between $40-$100 depending on the thumb drive's capacity, and you can also get her a protohoodie keychain for $5 so she won't lose it.
Moms love taking photos, so this Mother's Day give her a digital frame so she can display all her photos without cluttering up the wall. Both the Memorex Special Occasions and Floral Digital Frame have a 7-inch LCD screen that displays photos at a 480 x 234 resolution, and extra card slots so she can view all her photos straight from her memory cards. The Special Occasion Digital Frame even comes with four interchangeable inserts so she can change them on special occasions such as a wedding or a baby shower. They should be available at K-Mart for about $90.
Make Mom's life easier by getting her a SmartShopper to generate her grocery shopping list. She simply pushes a button, says the name of the item she needs, and the next time she's heading to the store, she can simply press the print button and out comes a list of all the items everyone needs sorted out by category. An errand-tracker is also included so she can keep track of all her errands, to-do's, and PTA meetings. This is a great gadget for any busy Mom.
I spotted this Dick Tracy-style watch on Gearlog, and thought it would be perfect for any geeky Mom who wants to show off photos of her kids. The PC and Mac compatible watch holds up to 160 photos all displayed as a slideshow on the background. Time can be displayed in analog or digital format, and is charged via USB with up to eight hours of viewing time on a single charge. The Photowatch is a real product (believe or not) and can be found via Brookstone for about $100.
As kids, most of us got crafty at school before Mother's day, but that went out the window as we got older. This Mother's Day you could check out places like Etsy to find Mom a cool handmade gift like this Mom Tune iPod case, or you if she's the crafty type, you could pick up an issue of Craftzine Magazine and make plans to work on a project together. Obviously, it would mean the world if you got out your glue gun to make her some Rock 'N' Roll Speakers or bake some of those yummy Bourbon Balls to celebrate her on this special day.

The Logitech 1000 universal remote is a beautiful device, but it's a little on the overkill side if ...
