Will Family Trainer compete with Wii Fit?

As you know, the Wii Fit is a balancing board that comes with "games" geared towards athletic types, and I only say that because I don't' know many people who will run to the store to buy a "game" that revolves around yoga, aerobics, and strength training exercises. While all those things are good for you, and maybe even fun, I prefer going to the gym to get my exercise, which is why I can't say I'm excited about the Wii Fit's upcoming release. Besides, I prefer games that give you a good workout without making you acutely aware that you're getting one.

Wii Sports is a great way to get a workout, and those who like it will soon have an alternative called Family Trainer for Wii.  IGN says the game includes a mat controller (similar to DDR) that combined with the Wii Remote gives gamers a full body workout that involves both your feet and hands.

Games include single and multiplayer challenges in log jumping, rope skipping, river rafting, and mine karting which sounds a lot more like Wii Sports than Wii Fit, although the game is already being called a Wii Fit competitor by bloggers. Atari's Family Trainer is schedule to be released in Europe around September 2008, and though nothing has been mentioned about a U.S. release, my guess is it will eventually make its way here hopefully around the holidays.
