Another successful viral video has been outed as an ad. This one was created to promote Angelina's new movie. Want to guess which
one?
The video, called "Office Meltdown," gained notoriety on the Web due to its violent nature. The video looks like it was recorded by a security camera, and shows an office worker going ballistic after a co-worker bumps into his desk, knocking off a stack of papers.
In the video, the guy starts throwing monitors at people, tossing papers, kicking in cubicle walls, and he even takes a sledgehammer to a printer, a la "Office Space," until security guards take him down.
What's interesting is that a second video, in color no less, taken with a cell phone appeared on YouTube around the same time. The second video gets all the action from a closer angle and it's a bit more impressive due to the sounds of people screaming and the worker getting tasered.
Yesterday a press
release shed some light on the origin of the mysterious clip claiming it was created to
promote a movie called "WANTED" starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy
and Morgan Freeman.
The film's director, Timur Bekmambetov, created the video and posted it on his blog a few weeks ago. He says one of the film's main themes is how to escape "office slavery," and one of the reasons the video was so successful is because people see themselves in this story.
Perhaps, but is it really appropriate to make viral videos like this one in a time when people are so sensitive about this kind of stuff? Check out the video, and tell me what you think.
