Charge your phone with some Flashdance moves

Harnessing solar energy is not always practical, so kinetic energy is quickly becoming the new trend among the eco-conscious crowd trying to save the world. Earlier this week I came across a story on Slate that made me chuckle a little because the author was investigating the possibilities of designing a kinetic bra.

Now we've seen plenty of solar bras out there, but the idea of using kinetic energy generated by a woman's breast to power an iPod is really out there. Besides, in order for this bra idea to work, the woman wearing it would need to have the right breast size (D-cup), and the bra would need to be designed with the right fabric—probably something waterproof since wires would be involved.

This kinetic bra idea will probably take off in a few more years, but for now we can turn our attention other kinetic energy harvesting gizmos. Actually, the Register wrote about a cool accessory that will keep your mobile juiced up while you're body surfing at Lollapalooza or shaking your thing at the night club.

This kinetic charger is called the Orange Dance Charger and it looks a lot like a regular sports armband. Inside it has weights and magnets that move when you dance, thus generating power which is then stored inside a small battery. If you happen to run out of juice, you simply plug your phone in and wait for the battery to charge. A few prototypes will be tested in the UK, so I'm sure we'll hear more about this kinetic energy loving armband.

If you sit at a computer most of the day then a kinetic bra would be less practical than kinetic energy devices on your ankles, wrists, or somewhere else on the extremities that move while you work. Of course if we start producing serious energy from nuclear reactors or solar satellites, then we won't have to go chasing after tiny quantities of energy produced tapping our feet to the latest top-40 song.
