There's been a lot of talk regarding the upcoming TSA approved laptop bags, and Skooba has finally released some images to give us a better idea of what to expect. Now earlier, I reported that TSA wants these checkpoint-friendly bags to be thinner, and free of zippers, buckles, or even pockets. With those specifications, I imagined all checkpoint-friendly bags would look like laptop sleeves, but these pre-production images on Gear Diary prove we won't have to compromise size for convenience.

According to Skooba's CEO Michael Hess, the checkpoint-friendly bags the company is currently working on will likely have plenty of pockets inside, removable compartments outside, and nickel-plated zippers and buckles throughout. As you can see from these pictures, having a checkpoint-friendly bag won't necessarily mean you'll need to carry two separate bags. Instead, we'll be able to carry one briefcase with a zipper in the middle that divides the bag into two large compartments: one that houses the laptop and the other one holds any miscellaneous items such as peripherals.

The side where the laptop resides is fully padded and will have a see-through window for security reasons. Also the exterior will be made of ballistic nylon, so it should be pretty durable for travel. These pre-productions designs are not final, but appear to be very close to the final design. Pricing and release date are not yet known, but it should be sometime before the end of the year.
