Pocket camcorders are aplenty, but most of them lack one thing: HD video capabilities. Creative's Vado, Pure Digital's Flip Video, and RCA's Small Wonder are all vying for your attention, but video quality just isn't that great even for YouTube. I'm still waiting for RCA to launch the its HD pocket camcorder (Small Wonder EZ300HD), but it looks like Kodak might beat them to the punch.

The company said come late September it will be introducing the KODAK Zi6 Pocket Video Camera. This pocket cam shoots high-quality video at 720p and VGA at 30 and 60 frames per second. Software to help newbies upload videos to YouTube is included, which also edits video and photos in a non-complicated way.

As far as looks are concerned, the Zi6 is bulkier than the Flip Minos but it's a lot sleeker than than other pocket cameras out there. Laptop Magazine got their hands on one and says it resembles the MOTOZINE ZN5 cell phone thanks to its satin finish, matte silver accents, and non-protruding lens. It has a 2.4-inch display, a flip-out built in USB connector, a navigational pad, and an SD/SDHC slot that can hold a 32GB card.

The only thing keeping this device from being great is battery life. Not good for an HD camcorder. It runs on rechargeable AA batteries, so you might have to pack a few extras batteries just in case.

I use the Kodak Z710 to record video, and I consider the AA batteries to be a bonus. I carry several sets of rechargeable batteries with me, and rotate them through. Three sets of Energizers are usually good enough for over three hours of video and about three hundred photos. This Zi-6 looks to be what I have been waiting for, and I can produce video that will be good enough to use on our local public access channel...so I can avoid spending $1,000 on a 3 CCD Camera.

It would be nice if Kodak would produce this item right in the USA . This and a lot of other products . Kodak would not have had to reduce it,s personell by 80% here in the USA and we retiries would not have to worry about our health benefits as the ratio of us staff would me more favorable . But what is still made here ? if you can find , please buy it and support our workers .
