No new Kindle for students this year

Instead of giving out free iPods, schools should be giving away eBook readers instead of forcing kids to pay those ridiculous textbook prices. Things started to look up for students after an analyst suggested that Amazon was working on a Kindle for college students earlier this week, but a spokesperson at Amazon dismissed the rumor when the New York Times asked for comment.

Craig Berman, Amazon’s chief spokesman, said, “Don’t believe everything you read. There’s a lot of rumor and speculation about the Kindle. One thing I can tell you for sure is that there will be no new version of the Kindle this year. A new version is possible sometime next year at the earliest.”

At least there's hope.

Berman declined to comment on the whether the new Kindle will have a target audience, but if Amazon doesn't jump on this opportunity soon, someone else will. I hope Sony does something about this soon, because I really prefer their tiny eBook reader to the Kindle.

Readers, what features do you think the next Kindle should have? Anyone? Anyone?

It would need to be a table pc to take notes on. Or have similar technology to highlight and take a serious amount of notes, draw diagrams, etc. onto the ebooks.
