I can think of a few reasons why an illuminated keyboard would be useful, especially
in the evenings when it's not quite dark outside to turn on the lights inside
but have to because you can't see your keyboard. This happens to me quite frequently,
and I've thought about getting an illuminated keyboard to see if it helps—although
working in complete darkness too long is not good for eyes.
Well today, I spotted Logitech's new Illuminated Keyboards over at
Gearlog, and was impressed by how thin they are. Logitech says it measures
.37 inches or 9.3 mm from base to frame, and uses a multilayer painting process,
laser etching, and microlens reflectors to create a sharper, brighter backlight
experience. Typing on this keyboard is supposed to be a lot quieter since it
uses Logitech's PerfectStroke key system, and it has soft-touch palm rest.
Judging from the images on the site, the new keyboard looks killer, except it doesn't appear to be wireless which is a deal breaker for me. Perhaps the next version will be wireless and include a wireless mouse, but until then, I'm hanging on to my $80. The keyboard will start shipping in October.

I want one!! I am always typing in the dark at 5am because I dont want to wake anyone with the light...
I have -what seems like- the non-backlighted version of that same keyboard, and yes it is quite comfortable to type on and it looks amazing. Mine is wireless and for $80, I'd expect the new one to be also. Take into account the fact that - if it is wireless - it'll be a rechargeable keyboard. Why? Because (1) they already make rechargeable hardware, and (2) backlights use a lot of energy compared to normal wireless data transmission. -=-=-=- expect a key encryption software to come with it too, they are very useful and just about every wireless keyboard from Logitech already comes with it built into the driver install. Good stuff, but I'll keep my S510 as it serves any purpose I've needed it for so far.

You would waste so many batteries if it was wireless. Plus $80 for a keyboard? Just turn on the lights or get a night light. Also if you use the computer a lot you should know where all the keys are on a keyboard.
