Those of you looking for a 3G phone that doesn't require a long-term annual contract may want to check out Virgin Mobile's Shuttle handset. The company launched its first 3G handset that runs on Sprint's EV-DO network earlier this week at CTIA. I got my hands on the phone, and thought it felt cheap, but what can you really expect from a pre-paid phone?

To take advantage of this 3G service, Virgin Mobile has added a handful of applications users can enjoy such as YouTube, MySpace, and Buddy Beacon which Helio users may remember. The black and red slider packs a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 2-inch screen, video capture/playback, stereo Bluetooth, memory card slot, and media player.

Users can purchase monthly data plans for $5 (20MB) and $10 (50MB), while pay-as-you-go plans range between $5-$20. You're not required to sign a service contract, but the phone will cost you $80 once it goes on sale September 28 at all Best Buy stores.

I got this phone a few months ago and I hate that when I miss a call, I have to think to go to the "Missed Calls" menu and check the times. It's incredibly difficult to find the volume quickly on the side when it's dark. Any of the buttons on the sides, really. It also eats up a ton of power when taking pictures and making calls (like a lot of higher up Virgin phones though, but it's pretty bad). It's very cool looking and takes good photos (which saves money when it comes to wallpapers), but I surprisingly miss my simple Aloha after using this phone for a few months.
