People always ask me what's the best way to digitize those photos trapped in
old slides. Scanning them comes to mind, but as Chris
points out, this method is tricky and you either need a scanner that supports slide scanning or special adapters
to get the best results. You could always send your slides to a conversion service,
but if you want to save some cash check out Ion Audio's Slides 2 PC scanner.
Slides 2 PC turns your old photo collection into digital form at the push of a button once you install the included software on your PC. The scanner is compatible with Windows Vista or XP and includes a set of slide and negative trays that holds several slides at a time.
CNET points out that the small device can scan images up to 1,800 dpi which can produce images with a 2,592 x 1,680 resolution. I guess the good news is the scanner is only $100, and even includes editing software to fix your photos which I'm sure you're going to need.
You might also want to check out the Slide and Negative to Digital Picture Converter over at Hammacher Schlemmer too. That one features similar specs and pricing, except only works with Windows XP.Â

Not Mac compatible? What are they thinking. In the demographic of customer who would scan slides to digital there is a very high ratio of Mac users.
