We've told you about Joost, Hulu, and Veoh, but all these sites may soon be
forgotten now that YouTube has signed a deal with CBS and will start offering
full-length TV shows with advertisements starting today. Classic TV shows like
"Beverly Hills, 90210," "MacGyver," and "Star Trek"
will be available on the site, as well as the new season premieres of Showtime's
"Dexter" and "Californication."
If you're worried about quality don't be. All full-length shows will be available in 'theatre' mode which improves the viewing experience according to YouTube. You'll also be able to distinguish between short and long clips thanks to badges that will be affixed to full-length shows.
Unfortunately, you'll have to sit through ads scheduled to play before, during, and after the show, but that's not a lot to ask in exchange for on-demand programming, is it? The two companies announced they will share ad revenue, although they refuse to go into specifics about the terms.
This is the first time YouTube signs a deal with a major network in order to offer full-length shows, and it hopes it to attract new partners in the future.
