If I could have any superhero power, I would definitely want to have the ability
to move things with my mind, and one company might just grant me that wish at
least in video games. California-based NeuroSky recently unveiled a concept
headset controller that helps players move video game characters with brain
waves.
NeuroSky's Mindset headset was on display at the Tokyo Game Show last week,
and gamers are excited about the possibilities. The controller looks like a
regular pair of headphones, for the exception of a single electrode that makes
contact with the user's forehead to monitor his brainwaves. The headset gauges
the player's level of concentration and relaxation, then moves the on-screen
character accordingly within the game.
The brainwave controller can apparently be used with PC games, gaming consoles, and mobile phones, but NeuroSky's managing director Kikuo Ito told the AFP he hopes to see more products use this type of technology in other fields to help people in hospitals, schools, and even in public transit. Once people get used to brain wave monitors, its uses will be endless.
