If you watched the Oprah show today, then you know that Oprah has officially endorsed the Kindle and calls it her new favorite gadget. The queen of all media had Jeff Bezos on her show today to discuss the ebook reader she says has changed her life. Oprah says she was reluctant to try the Amazon Kindle at first because she likes to read paper books, but she loves the fact that it allows you download books straight to the device without the need for a computer.

She also told her audience she's not a gadget person at all, but the wireless function on Kindle makes it easy to use. "If you're like me and a little computer challenged, do not be afraid of the Kindle—do not be afraid—because you don't even have to have a computer for it to work. That's the brilliant thing about it."

You can read Oprah's take on the Kindle on her website.

As most of you know, the Amazon Kindle is a wireless ebook that allows you to access over 190,000 books, blogs, newspapers and magazines. It can hold 200 books on its built-in memory, but with a memory card you can bump that number to 4,000 (read our review here).

The device itself is pretty expensive at $359, but Amazon is running a special promotion for Oprah Show viewers that takes $50 off the total price. You need to enter the promotional code OPRAHWINFREY when you check out, so if you've been thinking about buying one for the holidays you better do it soon because this promo ends November 1, 2008.

On the other hand, rumors have been circulating about a Kindle 2.0 with better operating controls and interface, so I'd probably wait if I were you.
