MTV tries the whole music thing again with MTVM

The younger generation might not remember this but MTV (which actually stands for Music Television) once played music videos 24-hours a day, seven days a week instead of those ghastly reality shows. Hard to believe isn't it? I'm still not sure how THE Music Television channel managed to single-handedly suppress the music video for so long, but it's about time they brought it back.

MTV hopes to redeem itself by launching an online music channel called MTV Music that includes over 16,000 videos along with exclusive MTV concert footage, and those awesome"Unplugged" performances. Sure you can find most of the same videos on YouTube, but MTVM has them all in one place sorted out by genre, label, and artist so you can find them with a few clicks.

You can also see who's watching what, which videos are the top rated, most viewed, and even learn a little something about the history of music videos through the vintage video archive. More clips will be added on a daily basis, according to MTV's blog, so be patient if you don't see your favorites.

In the meantime, check out these scary music videos in honor of Halloween:

Michael Jackson: Thriller (long version)
Nine Inch Nails: Closer
Marilyn Manson: The Beautiful People
Slipknot: Psychosocial
Tool: Sober
Evanescence: Going Under

Why no mention of the previous times they've done this, with MTV2, MTV Hits, and so on. How many times does MTV get to say they're bringing back music videos?
