Blockbuster is finally launching a set-top box before the end of the year according
to PCMag.com
who says the video rental chain reveled plans to do so in the company's third-quarter
earnings call. Blockbuster's chief executive, Jim Keyes, said this will only
be a trial offer to help them understand consumer response and keep up with
emerging technology. The set-top box, Keyes says, will deliver Blockbuster movies
on-demand using the Movielink rental and purchase service.
You can already download Blockbuster movies to watch them on your computer, but who wants to do that when you have a big screen TV in your living room? Apparently, the store also plans to try out in-store movie downloads, but I honestly don't see that going anywhere. Blockbuster has really been struggling to keep up with Netflix, and still has a long way to go.
Meanwhile, Netflix continues to get ahead of the game by teaming up with Apple, Samsung, TiVo, and Microsoft to offer movie fans more options before the end of the year. Personally, I still use Blockbuster once in a while because it's convenient, but plan to completely stop the minute Netflix rolls out the TiVo service. I can't wait!
What about you? What video service do you use?

While the selection is not great, if you have BB or Netflix and watch on demand movies via your computer, remember you can connect your S-video, VGA, or HDMI cable from your computer to your HDTV, and BAM -here comes big screen viewing! Not to shabby. Netflix is good for the TV shows - watched Heroes and Coupling, for example this way. So don't wait for the set top box. You can enjoy now.
