Review: Dr. Dre Beats Tour

Nothing screams style like Beats by Dr. Dre. The over-the-ear headphones have been the talk of the town this past year, evident by the numerous cameo appearances on TV shows like "Entourage" (Turtle wears them on the plane in Episode 65), and several music videos. Personally, I've seen plenty of celebrities wearing them, not only because they're hot, but also because they sound better than any pair of headphones out there. No joke.

Unfortunately, there are those who are not fond of DJ-style headphones because, you know, it might ruin their hair style, so Monster created Beats by Dr. Dre Tour for them. I got my hands on a pair, and was again impressed by the quality of the sound they produced. I've never been a snob about audio, but once you're exposed to the best you begin to expect the same from all the rest. Beats Tour are designed to deliver high resolution sound with deep base and extreme clarity so you can hear the music the way the artist does in the studio, or in this case, the way Dr. Dre does.

Beats Tour come in a black, round zippered case that protects the earphones and has plenty of room inside for the different silicone eartips. The back of the earphones feature a small red "b" and surprisingly, the cables are flat and bright red to boot. The smart tangle-free cable design keeps the wires separated at all times, and eliminate the knots that drive earphone owners insane most of the time. I don't know why it took this long for someone to figure out flat cables would work better, but I'm glad they did.

Maybe I have small ears, but the earbuds seemed a little too long and felt like they were sticking out of my ears. I couldn't decide between the cone tips and triple layered tips, but I finally found a set that created a good seal and felt almost 100 percent right. I say almost, because the angled earbuds just feel awkward in my ears. This may vary from person to person, but if you have small ears like me, you might want to check out a different set of earphones.

Beats Tour come in a box half the size of the original one, but is just as flashy and beautiful. You can tell Monster really prides itself in designing a product that screams quality inside and out.
