iRiver S10 for Tiny Dancers

With all the Apple announcements last week, the iRiver S10 was overlooked by some of us, mainly me.

Soon after Apple announced its metal clip-on iPod Shuffle, iRiver leaked out details of their miniature iRiver S10, 2GB flash-based player with OLED screen, FM recording, and MP3 playback. Despite a 1.5 inch screen, this tiny player doesn't support video, but then again, who would want to watch anything on such a small screen?

This player is tough competitor to the iPod Shuffle, although the iRiver S10 has a shorter battery life of eight hours, compared to the 12 hours of music you get on the iPod Shuffle. But that doesn't matter, because everyone knows a small screen, is better than no screen at all.

Now, about wearing this as a pendant...

This trend is not going to happen. It's one thing to make technology so small we can't even push the buttons or find it in our handbag, but the idea of wearing it as a necklace is way ahead of its time. In order for this idea to work, designers need to shave off some of that width, so it doesn't look so bulky around the neck. Someday, they'll get it right.

Which one do you like better, the iPod Shuffle or the iRiver S10?

hello gina...years ago i bought an iriver flash player with fm (256mb @ $200 !!!)...and learned that the teens in japan love to wear this stuff as jewelry...but you know , i am an american guy and could not quite see that as my type of statement... i will admit to recording my summer conventions with it tucked into my business suit pocket , silver metalflake lanyard around my neck , ear buds and all ;)

I think that the Iriver is great. In fact, I've loved my stylish necklace style iriver n10 for years. People always ask me about it and it has become a conversation piece whereever I go. Of course, I live in montreal, what some people call the gateway between Europe and America. You ask who wants to wear technology as jewelry, well I do. I'm sure a lot of people in the rest of the world might too. I think it's a fresh idea and I can't wait to get it. And I think the shuffle is pointless. I don't understand how that has become a trend at all. If you check out the youtube video, you will see that the s10s not so hard to navigate and is not so bulky, although it is larger than the n10 series.

oh and what's even cooler is that there is a rumor that iriver will make a watch accessory with bluetooth ability. We'll have to wait and see about that, but that would be super fantastic!

I have the S10 and it is a lot of fun. This from a 45 year old New York attorney who is not easily impressed. I find the iriver to have a lot of character as well as functionality. And while I dont wear it around my neck at work, on the train or at home, why not? You can also put it under your outer shirt to hide it if you want. Great sound quality especially with EQ choices, including user defined.
