Lost and Found Gadget Service

A few weeks ago while going through airport security, my travel companion grabbed someone else's laptop thinking it was mine. The funny thing was that the person missing the laptop didn't even notice. When my friend handed it to me, I was taken aback by how easy it is for someone else to grab your notebook, walk away with it, and no one would even notice. Of course, we returned the notebook to the owner, but that must've been a wake up call for her.

If you ever lost your notebook, and a good Samaritan really wants to return it to you, where do they start? And how many of us actually have return labels on our gadgets?

I don't, but after finding StuffBak I think a lost and found solution is at hand. Once you sign-up for their Premium Coverage (5 years, $19.99) and place labels on your gear, the chances of seeing your lost items again just increased by 75 percent, according to the website.

Labels provided by the company include a unique identifying number, a website address, the words "Reward For Return" and a tollfree number. The finder would simply call the tollfree number or visit the website, where he/she would be given a choice of returning your item through a courier pick-up service or provided with the address of a nearby drop-off center. To make this process a little more appealing to the finder, he/she is rewarded by Stuffbak and yourself if you choose to include a cash reward.

Sounds like a simple solution to a common problem. Consumer electronics are expensive, and if one label increases the chances of ever seeing it again after being lost, then I say this service is worth the effort.

How do you label your gear?
