Reader JlGoldman1 wants to know if there is a tip or workaround to save your cell phone data without paying a monthly fee to your carrier or another service.

This question is in regard to a post about cell phone backup services provided by U.S Carriers. The main concern for readers seemed to be the recurring monthly charge.

I offered an alternative to paying a monthly fee by suggesting a few devices that would also do the job without monthly fees, and my second alternative is data syncing software to store cell phone data on your computer.

Here is a list of this software:

  • DataPilot Cell Phone Data Transfer Suite: This suite does more than just create a backup of your phone book. It also lets your create and import ringtones, edit images, and check emails on-the-go. You can use this software with up to eight different phone models. It includes up to 9 data cables for different phones.
  • Mobile Action Handset Manager: Lets you transfer and edit your contact lists, pictures, videos, and also works as a mobile phone modem. Compatible with most phones models.
  • Future Dial's Snap Sync: Also allows you to edit and transfer contacts between your cell phone and PC. Compatible with over 270 cell phones. Cable is sold separately.
  • iSync 2 for Mac: Included with Mac OSX Tiger, this software syncs with Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones via Bluetooth or USB.

Before you buy this type of software make sure it comes with any necessary cables you need or else you'll end up spending more money. You also want to make sure the software is compatible with your phone.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Anyone used the software mentioned in this article? What was your experience?
