Imagine how upset your significant other would be if you accidentally deleted all those great vacation photos you took during your Memorial Day weekend getaway. I mean, it's not everyday you get to get to take incriminating pictures of your friends in Vegas, right?
Sony Memory Stick owners can now download a free software program that recovers lost or deleted files from compatible Memory Stick cards. The recovery depends on the state of the data and whether or not it has been overwritten.
Sony's Memory Stick Data Rescue Service, which was released last week, enables the recovery of lost .jpg (DCF Format) files, MPEG1 and .mp4 (MS Video File Format) files, as well as office data files such as Powerpoint and Word documents.
To download the software, you are required to register the Memory Stick model and serial number which takes about a minute or so.
To test it out, I downloaded the software, and erased all the images on the Memory Stick inside my Sony DSC-T30 digital camera. I was able to recover and resave all the deleted files with no problem. The software walks you through the quick seven step process, and works like a charm.

So the software is to recover accidentally deleted pictures as opposed to a manufacturing flaw?
