Yahoo! Answers Reader Dane Cook (yes, that one) wants to know: What are some great underground websites and what makes them so cool?

As far as underground websites, I assume these are websites that not many people have heard about. There are billions of these out there, so I'll list some interesting sites that highlight underground trends in art, design, and technology.

  1. Digg.com: Users vote on the most sizzling stories in technology. If you want to know what people (not editors) think is newsworthy right now, this is the site to visit.
  2. BoingBoing: A reminder that life is stranger than fiction. This site highlights the oddest news and stories from around the web.
  3. Fark: You can read the funniest news here that you would normally get forwarded from a friend.
  4. MoBuzz TV: News video blog with a fun take on new technology, celebrities, current events, and trends. They have their finger on the pulse.
  5. The Cool Hunter: Meet the kids of cool who report on the new trends in design, art, fashion and music on a worldwide level.
  6. We Make Money Not Art: Berlin-based blog about robotics, art, wearable technology and other emerging technology. The author always manages to dig out some very strange news from around the world.

Those are my top picks of underground destinations that keep me entertained when I need a break from everyday ho-hum news stories.

Readers, what are some of your favorite underground sites. Share them in the comment section below.
