Why are all of these articles for things to buy girls? I know my girlfriends have bought me things. Are there articles with lists of things to buy guys, or are they just not as popular on Yahoo!? ~Chris.

Chris is responding to my Valentine's gadget gifts for her suggestions, and coincidently, he wasn't the only one wondering about gift ideas for men. It comes as no surprise that women prefer flowers, dinner, and a movie on Valentine's Day. But after Ricky and I asked several men on the street what they wanted for Valentine's Day, we pretty much came to the conclusion that men want gadgets for every holiday. Now feel free to disagree with me here guys, but it's hard to disagree with that assumption when I myself have a techno-loving husband.

I enlisted the help of my friend, the original "technosexual" Ricky Montalvo, who helped me select five great gadgets for him. Now, in case you're wondering, a technosexual is a person who loves all things tech, but doesn't overlook style. So ladies, whether you've been madly in love for years, on the prowl, or just meeting the parents, treat him to a special gift this Valentine's Day. You know, it's not always about us.

Oakely AP Sandbag

Tired of him carrying all those gadgets in his pockets? Don’t want him looking like he's still carrying that old college backpack? Have him styling' in this Oakley’s AP Sandbag that gives the old Batman belt the boot. The sling-style gadget bag fits a laptop plus all his gadgets in an array of pockets located on the inside and out. It's a great gadget bag made for the modern urban warrior. Price: $110

Romantic tip: Fill the bag up with sexy toys on Valentine's. Just make sure you take them out before he takes the bag to work.

Digital Photo Viewer Keychain

I know my Dad would love this digital photo viewer keychain, because he loves showing off pictures of his grandkids, so for this reason alone I'm recommending this little item to my mother. But I think any girl can get really creative with one of these. Download all those sappy pictures of your first date or first anniversary together, and take him back on a little trip down memory lane anytime. It's capable of holding up to 56 pictures from your PC or Mac, so now there's no excuse for anyone to doubt he's not happily committed. Price: $50

Romantic tip: Spice things up with racy pictures for his eyes only.

Jawbone Noise Canceling Headset

Headset-wearing boyfriends can sure make us feel like we're dating a cast member from Star Trek. Give him a subtle makeover with a Jawbone headset that will have him looking more Jude Law than Captain Kirk. I love how this headset drowns out ambient noise, so he can hear you whispering sweet nothings over loud noises, like say, annoying co-workers at the office. The sleek perforated metal shield is available in three colors. Price: $120

Romantic tip: Next time you're professing your deep unadulterated love for him, ask him to place the headset on his left ear. Studies say emotional words get through to people better when they hear them through the left ear.

Paul Frank Red Eye Express Watch

Don't let your jetsetting boyfriend be late again. Show him the difference between being “here” and when he should be “there.” Paul Frank’s Red Eye Express Watch ($200) comes with two analog time displays in two stylish dials that give him a simple reminder of what time he should always be there with you. I have to hand it to Ricky, every man who travels needs this watch.

Romantic tip: Remember that scene in Pretty Woman when she gives him a tie?

V-MODA Vibe Earphones

Is your man still sporting those white buds? Scrap them and replace them with a pair of these metal sound-stylish ear buds. I know a few technosexuals who would love a pair of earbuds from V-Moda, especially those new V-Moda Vibe headphones essential for an active lifestyle, featuring noise isolation. All available in four sexy colors to match any music enthusiast's sense of style. Price: $101.00

Romantic tip: Load his music player with his favorite songs, and let him experience them all over again. Hey, if you have a microphone, use your imagination.

I love gadgets and if I were given any of these lame gifts I would immediately return them or throw them away. Don't buy any of this stuff it will just make any technosexual guys unhappy. Save your money and buy a giftcard.

Regarding giving a shirt for Valentine's Day. I'm sure if she announced, from the bathroom or hall, "Honey, I got you a new shirt for Valentine's Day." and then entered the bedroom wearing NOTHING BUT the shirt, it would be a shirt that would ALWAYS bring a smile to his face whenever he wore it (more likely for what happened AFTER the shirt came off for the first time). ;-)

First of all this is a technology blog, so stop complaining that it has gifts based on technology! It's like going to a clothing store and becoming upset when you find out they don't carry cabinets. Expensive? How about the jewely guys give their girlfriends/wives. Why is it ok for guys to spend triple digits on women but it's expensive to buy a guy a gift over $50. That's both rude and sexist. And while except for the picture viewer(for hacking purposes) I wouldn't want these that's just my individualized self, I can see how others may very well like them. Finally if the gift somehow embodies something about your love, then it's not unromantic or impersonal A microchip does not make things cold, or unromantic,. The moon is a large rock in space, impersonal and cold, yet it has been seen as romantic. Romance is not in the object but in the contex and the emotions surrounding it.

I agree, these ideas suck.I am making my boyfriend a card and on each page it will have a picture of us in the order from when we met to now. With a little note on each page telling him how much he means to me and he is the sweetest man alive. He has to work that night but on the weekend I will cook him dinner and wear the sexiest little number he has ever seen.Valentines day isnt about spending money it is showing that special person in your life how much they mean to you.I personally would prefer for him not to spend a penny on me.I know how much he cares for me and what we are building together. That is all that matters.

IF you don't know your guy enough to know what he wants for Valentines day or any other gift-giving day, you shouldn't be with him. You need to make it your job to know what your guy likes. When a holiday or Bday is comming up, see waht he wants. Talk about impersonal, my man wanted an XBox 360 game for Valentines day.

Umm....let see....how about something a little cheaper?? I know Valentines is the day to show your love but hello!! My husband knows I love him everyday without spending $100 on some headphones. How about something the average Jane can afford?

I appreciate having an article about find ing gifts for the men in my life. Some times yoy wan't to buy a gift just because you feel like it. And many times it is hard to find gifts that really stand out - something they will appreciate and remember you with.

Anything for those of us on a smaller budget???

  • 95 Posted by nickleyw on Thu Sep 3, 2009 7:37PM EDT Report Abuse

I would have to agree that these are all very impersonal gifts... the photo-viewer keychain is the best option, as you could pics of your loved-one in it. I give this article a C-

If your 30 something or maybe 20 something these are great ideas but if your older - forget it!!

Totally Impersonal! Why not give a spa day or a couples massage, something that you can both enjoy together. Or treat your man to dinner rather than the reverse. A gadget will be forgotten as technology outpaces it's existence. By next year it will be in a box for the Goodwill.

i'm a guy the "normal" kind. and to tell you the truth, all this gadgets wouldn't do it for me what-so-ever !!! we rarely get anything for the holidays and when we do get stuff, is not realy what we want. we're "guys" and for once we would like a "man" gift not a "gadget" woman= BLING, clothes, shoes, flowers, dinner, etc. man= gadget..........give me a break !!!!!!

These items are stupid, if I really wanted this stuff I would go out and buy it myself! First of all women do not need help well at least mine doesnt, us guys are the ones who are romantic-ly impaired. My wife always finds the perfect gifts that i didnt even know i wanted but end up loving them, so chew on that
