Being the huge solar-power advocate that I am, I welcome the idea of any mobile solar device. There's an overwhelming amount of sunlight to go around, at least here in California, where there's already plenty of eco-friendly solar power integration. Now according to Unwired View, China's HTW Electronics claims to have developed the S116 solar Mobile Phone which was announced last week at CeBit, although no working prototype was on-hand to confirm their claims.
It sounds great on paper though, featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera, memory card slot, QVGA display, and a slim design that resembles a trendy Motorola RAZR. Apparently, a 40-minute sunlight charge equals to 20-25 minutes of talk time, which means you can place that cell phone on your car's dashboard to recharge it while you drive to work every morning. Wouldn't that be strange? I hope they also include a regular electrical charger, since we'll need it as a backup for nights and cloudy days.
HTW Electronics says the phone will be available in China next month. Can't wait for this technology to come to the U.S. What do you think about solar mobile phones?

Way to go, China! Solar cell phones are a step in the right direction, I think!
This offers a great way to charge a phone when you need an emergency charge... but i ususally keep my phone on all the time and usually/text at night (as a college kid) i might not even really ahve the phone ever see sun light... (it'll be in my pocket, back pack) so i dont' think it'd be useful unless i forgot to charge it the night before and could hold it to charge it.. which would be a pain...
I said that we needed solar cell phones 7 years ago, back when Nokia was the leader. It seems like every good idea I have gets put into action by somebody else. I hate not getting copyright protection for my ideas.
It is great to have a solar regharger for the mobile. As it will save electric power and if there is any power-cut then we can at least talk to our friends while charging our mobile in the sunlight. I hope I'll get one soon this type of mobile.

This is an idea long in waiting and I think it is a fantastic idea. It will be interesting to see how they address questions on the increased temperature, potential UV degradation and overall battery efficiency when the light source is unavailable. Placing solar panels on the roof of your car and charging your phone (and your car) which is possible today would be cool too. I should open a business to do that.
