It's never too early to start shopping for school supplies, especially computers. Apple Computer just announced that they will be replacing the eMac, their last CRT based computer, and release an $899 Intel Core Duo iMac specifically for education customers. The 17-inch iMac for education features a combo drive for burning CDs and reading DVDs, 80GB Serial ATA hard drive, mighty mouse, Apple keyboard, an iSight video camera, and iLife '06.
What student wouldn't want that machine? Especially now that Macs can run Windows (in case they need it at all), and come with Intel Duo Core chips, which allow it to perform multiple tasks faster. Macs are quickly becoming the computer of choice.
According to this article on Yahoo! News, Apple and HP both were the brand of choice for 11% of prospective buyers in an early June poll by TechnoMetrica.
